Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
  • For the Mashed Potatoes:
  • 2 lbs (900g) potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup warm milk or cream
  • Salt and white pepper to taste
  • For the Creamy Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half for a lighter version)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or dill for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash them with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef with onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, and seasonings. Form into small meatballs. Cook the meatballs in a large skillet until they're browned on all sides, then remove and set them aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour for one minute. Gradually whisk in the broth until smooth, then add the cream, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. Return the meatballs to the skillet and let them simmer in the sauce for 5-7 minutes. Spoon the mashed potatoes onto plates and top with the meatballs and sauce. Garnish with parsley or dill.
